At the outset, let me confess that whatever information and experience I have with me about Professor M.A. Lakshmithathachar Swamy is extraordinarily little. To explain his values and virtues is like holding a candle against the Sun. Nevertheless, I wish to present whatever little facts I have.

ಶ್ರೀಮತೇ ರಾಮಾನುಜಾಯ ನಮಃ,
ಶ್ರೀಮದನಂತಾರ್ಯ ಗುರುವೇ ನಮಃ ॥
ನಮ್ಮ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ, ಪರಮ ಪೂಜ್ಯರೂ, ಆಚಾರ್ಯರೂ, ಮಹಾಮಹೋಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯರೂ ಆದ ತೀ। ಅಣ್ಣನವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಒಂದು ಲೇಖನವನ್ನು ಬರೆಯಬಹುದೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿದಾಗ ನನಗೆ ಒಮ್ಮೆಲೇ ಆನಂದವೂ, ಭಯವೂ ಆಯಿತು. ಅಣ್ಣನವರೆಂದರೆ, ಎತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಮೇರು ಪರ್ವತ, ಆಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಮಹಾಸಾಗರ. ಅದ್ಭುತ ಸಾಧಕರು. ಅತ್ಯುನ್ನತ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರು. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದವರು. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಗೆ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿ, ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಅಂತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಖ್ಯಾತಿ ಪಡೆದವರು. 'ಆಡು ಮುಟ್ಟದ ಸೊಪ್ಪಿಲ್ಲ' ಎನ್ನುವಂತೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಮಹಾನ್ ಸಾಧಕರು. ಅಂತಹ ಮಹಾನ್ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಅವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬರೆಯಲು ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಇರುವೆಯಂತಿರುವ ನನ್ನಿಂದ ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ? ಆದರೂ ಇದೆಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮಿಗಿಲಾಗಿ ಅವರು ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಅಣ್ಣ ಅದೇ ನನಗೆ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಲ್ಲವೇ? ಅವರ ಒಡನಾಟದಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗೆ ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಬರೆಯಬಹುದೆಂಬ ಧೈರ್ಯ ಉಂಟಾಯಿತು. ಅದಕ್ಕೇ ಈ ಲೇಖನ.

The first thing I remember about Māma is his ultra-caring nature. Once, when I was swimming in a lake in Melkote with wooden floaters tied to my back, a playful incident left me gasping for air after drinking in water. While others, including the older people, laughed, it was Māma who swam up, lifted me onto his back, and carried me to safety. I still remember the warmth of his back and the security I felt.

My journey of life with Mama has been a colourful decorated mixture of treasured traditions, special experiences and the most invaluable lessons. During my childhood, Mama used to teach me Alwars Divyaprabhandam recitation and Carnatic music, which I can never forget until today. As I was weak in Mathematics, he taught me the same during summer vacation for next year syllabus. This made me more confident.
