My Periayya - Sri M.A. Lakshmithathachar

My Periayya, Sri M.A. Lakshmithathachar, was not just a renowned scholar in Sanskrit and Indian philosophy, but also a deeply compassionate human being. He dedicated his life to preserving and advancing the wisdom of ancient Indian knowledge systems. As the founder director of the Academy of Sanskrit Research in Melkote, he created a space where traditional knowledge met modern science, inspiring countless scholars and researchers.

But for me, his niece, Periayya is more than the intellectual giant he is known to the world. He is someone who made my childhood magical. His Sanskrit academy was not just a place of learning it was a sanctuary filled with life. Peacocks roamed freely, deer wandered gracefully and a majestic black horse named Dattatreya was the pride of the academy.

One of my most cherished memories is the day I rode Dattattreya. The thrill of sitting on that powerful horse, guided by my Periayya's reassuring presence, is something I will never forget. Those moments spent at the academy, surrounded by nature and knowledge, hold a special place in my heart.

Periayya's life is a beautiful blend of scholarship, tradition and love for all living beings. His kindness, wisdom and the values he lived by, have left a lasting Impression on me. To the world, he is a great philosopher and researcher, but to me, he is my beloved uncle who made learning and life so vibrant and meaningful.
